One of the biggest pet peeves of getting a fresh manicure is chipping just a few days after having perfectly polished nails. One of the mistakes nail salons do is to soak your nails in water before polish. According to celebrity manicurist Tracylee Percival, water is retained in the nails for three days causing them to expand and when they dry out and contract to their normal size, it causes chipping. Here are some tips to maintain your polish for up to a week.
- Crystal file – Using a paper file on your nails can shred the layers of your nail tip making it peel and ultimately, weaker. Using a crystal file like the one from KBShimmer actually seals all the layers of the nail together at the free edge, eliminating peeling and allowing for a stronger nail. They are also great for the environment, as they can be sanitized and reused, eliminating waste.
- Nail Prep pH Balancing Pre-Polish Treatment – When we do things to the nails during a manicure, (such as polish removal, or using products such as oils and hand cream) it alters the pH balance of the nail. This product brings the nail back to its original pH level which allows for polish longevity. This product has been a pro tech secret for decades and now is available to the consumer.
- Textured polish – KBShimmer polish has super long longevity in its wear because of the texture that is infused within the polish. The use of glitter, shimmer and chrome pigments really grip on to the nail for ultimate staying power.
