The world and everyday life has rapidly changed over the past few weeks. Looking ahead, we don’t know when we will return to what we used to refer to as “normal.” In light of such uncertain times though, MyCube safes provide a sense of relief.
We spoke with MyCube founders Lois Krasilovsky and her son, Scott Annan, to learn more about the company and what it offers in terms of protection and safekeeping of our most valuable items.
MyCube is the first safe company to combine technology with style – what was the process in the innovation behind combining the two?
SA: At MyCube, our goal is to make products with high quality security that make people feel safe – and there’s no reason a safe can’t look great too! Our process in developing our products is to have compassion for the customer and ask the right questions. How can we make it simple and intuitive, make the entire customer experience as seamless as possible, and at the same time make a safe that looks good? The easier and more personalized you can make a product, the more reason you give a customer to use it. And with a safe, the more you use it, the greater ability you have to protect your vital belongings.
What makes MyCube unique from other safes and safekeeping devices on the market?
LK: MyCube’s chic design, hi-gloss colors, and interior features, such as an internal light and soft suede pad, are unique features of the safes. We have 3 different models, MyCube Classic, MyCube Mini, and MyCube fire safe, which is rated at 1200 degrees for 1 hour. We offer a variety of accessories as well, including four different style trays for storing jewelry, cash, watches, and other personal items. The safe is also very easy to use as it is a 4-digit LED digital keypad with one-button push locking. We also have a lifetime guarantee and free installation in NYC.
What types of items of value do you recommend MyCube for safekeeping?
LK: Anything of value, such as cash, passports, jewelry, watches, prescription medications, and any important documents.
While many things in our home have set places to keep them (i.e. clothes, food etc.), why don’t people think of having a set and secure place for items of value?
SA: The safe industry is antiquated and not forward thinking. There is a lack of public awareness. From our experience, people start thinking about purchasing a safe after they have been burglarized or cannot find jewelry and other valuables that they have hidden. We work diligently to educate and support our customers about the importance of knowing where and how to store and secure their vital belongings. Once they understand the value that they actually have in their possession, how disorganized their personal items often are, and learn more about our products, they do not hesitate to purchase one.
You are a mother and son team – how is working together in a family business?
LK: We love working together! We have different skill sets which complement one another, but we share and uphold our family values of honesty, integrity, and kindness. We deliver a consistent message and always put our customers first. With all that it takes to start a business, who better to trust than one another!
Your family has been making safes and working to protect for over 100 years. What role did the family business play in the decision to create MyCube?
LK: My father’s (Scott’s grandfather) cousins started a safe business in NYC in 1904. My father bought that business in 1957. I grew up working in his business during school holidays and summers; Scott worked with my brother in the business for several years. As a result of personal experiences, we saw a need for a small home safe, which is where our inspiration came from to create a contemporary design for something often viewed as utilitarian.
How do you ensure your customers feel safe and that they have peace of mind in times of need with MyCube?
SA: Our product is high-quality and works. It’s extremely secure and keeps your valuables in your possession.
LK: We have 24/7 customer support where customers speak with a MyCube team member directly, and not a call center. All calls are answered immediately or returned within the hour. We work to answer questions efficiently and go above and beyond to answer to their needs.
Given how our lives have changed drastically in the time we spend at home due to COVID-19, why do you think MyCube and safekeeping are more important than ever for families and individuals?
SA: Anytime we go through a dramatic health or economic event, our alert level around staying safe and security goes up. We are in one of those times now. People are looking to secure cash, jewelry, and other valuables in a place they know is safe and where they can get immediate access. It’s critical that we give ourselves as much certainty as possible, and one of the ways to do that is to have a personal safe place that only you can access.
LK: MyCube is also all about organization, and the more we have on our minds, the more important it is to keep the most important items in our lives organized so we know where they are and how to access them.
Please share any upcoming news and/or new innovations planned for MyCube in 2020 with our readers.
SA: At MyCube, we are all about innovation. We will be launching a new brand identity this summer, which will continue to position MyCube at the forefront of design within our industry.
