High above the East Village, atop 32 East 1st Street lies a dreamy 2,766 square foot penthouse staged by world-renowned French artist, Mathieu Lehanneur. Lehanneur’s “Pied-a-Terre” at Penthouse B, is a 3 bedroom, 3 bath duplex residence featuring custom furnishings and sculptural decor envisioned and created by Lehanneur himself.
The sleek and sophisticated space presents a kitchen adorned with Bianco Lasa marble countertops and backsplashes and cutting edge appliances by Wolf and Sub-Zero. The bathrooms evoke a serene ambiance with heated floors and an exquisitely designed Cristalplant tub from Antoni Lupi. Custom Molteni closets and a state-of-the-art Sonos sound system are included. A 1,170 square foot wraparound terrace, complete with an outdoor kitchen, offers a breathtaking view of New York City.
Describing the creative process behind the apartment’s design, Lehanneur expressed, “The sky is right there, I wanted to build the project around this concept”.
Pieces from his own collections and a light and airy color palette fit the mood and the overall aesthetic envisioned for the space. Some of Lehanneur’s most eye-catching pieces are featured, including Inverted Gravity, a console that incorporates luxurious, rich materials like onyx and hand-blown glass as well as the Familyscape sofas that create the sensation of floating in the clouds. A blue ombre carpet seemingly reflecting the sky can be found in the living room as well as his Pocket Ocean piece floating above the fireplace.
Yan Ouaknine, co-founder of Aore Holdings, LLC partnered with Lehanneur on the “Pied-a-Terre”, which is the artist’s first branded space in New York City. Collaborating with the luxury residential property was an easy choice for Lehanneur, due to the building’s opportune location, impeccable design, and sense of “savoir-faire.” A magnificent new addition to an already vibrant neighborhood, 32 East 1st Street lies in a quarter of the East Village known centuries ago for its elegance and more recently, as the birthplace of American cultural icons and artistic movements.
