Just 2 hours north of Manhattan, the Emerson Resort & Spa is a combination of sophisticated luxury and rustic charm. Located in the heart of the Catskill Mountains and inspired by its location and its namesake, poet Ralph Waldo Emerson, the Emerson Resort & Spa is a charming 20-acre boutique property that recently completed a $6 million dollar renovation of its guestrooms and public areas, and reopened their full-service 6,193-square-feet destination spa. The Emerson features 53 total rooms, including 26 suites/rooms in the contemporary Inn and 27 suites in the Adirondack-style Lodge. The Inn is an adult-only facility while their lodge, sitting just next door to the Inn, welcomes children of all ages. At the Inn there’s a gym, yoga studio, fine dining restaurant, and their full-service spa; the lodge has an outdoor swimming pool.
The new interior of the Emerson was executed to evoke a feeling that is more reflective of legendary poet Ralph Waldo Emerson, whose famous essay “Nature” was the incentive for the development of the Catskill Forest Preserve surrounding the Emerson grounds. The Emerson Resort & Spa now brings the outside in and provides guests with open spaces and large windows, showcasing expansive views of Mount Tremper and the 65-mile long Esopus Creek.
Their signature restaurant, the Woodnote Grill, serves handcrafted cocktails and Catskill-themed menu items with ingredients sourced from the local Hudson Valley area. The menu changes seasonally and focuses on the bounty of the region.
The Emerson Spa reopened as a full-service 6,193 square-feet destination luxury spa in September 2016. The opening of the Spa also marked the unveiling of Emerson’s new Spa Menu, featuring a variety of signature lines, treatments, and experiences. Highlighting the new menu is the Biotec Skincare System, a groundbreaking series of anti-aging and energizing facials. The menu also includes vegan nail care by SpaRitual, hot and cold stone treatments, customized therapies and in-house blended aromatherapy oils. The spa also has a beautiful outdoor wooden deck with a jetted hot tub…one of my favorite offerings at this property.
The resort is dog-friendly and features a dedicated 60-feet wide by 100-feet long park just for canines with a dog run, doggy shower, fresh running water and a special area for smaller dogs too. There is even a “Pup Fare” menu offering homemade treats, including baked in-house dog bones, chicken breasts, and steak filets.
The scenery around the resort is nothing less than spectacular with rolling hills and nearby quaint towns. There are a multitude of activities including hiking and biking excursions, trout fishing, tubing down the Esopus, and shopping in the nearby towns of Woodstock and Phoenicia.
The resort is currently running a Pre-holiday getaway special offering on a one-night stay that saves you up to $98; available Sunday through Thursday, November 4th -21st and December 1st -12th.
