Designer Dennis Basso has been glamming up his loyal customers, including many A-list celebrities, for over three decades – and his design skills are still as strong as ever! Known for extravagant furs, whimsical dresses, radiant resort wear and much more, his collections appeal to those across all generations. Dennis, who never slows down, is gearing up for another successful New York Fashion Week Show! According to Dennis, “the most exciting thing in my career is the fact that over the past three decades we have developed a clientele that goes from 25 to 90 years old, often encompassing three generations in one family.”
Their latest – and most chic – collection is definitely for the sophisticated woman as well as younger fashionistas who are looking to have fun with their wardrobe. “The Dennis Basso brand appeals to the international woman along with being cross-generational.This is what the brand has worked on and successfully achieved for the past 36 years.”
Over the course of his career, Dennis has gained some very famous fans, many of whom have walked in his Fashion Week shows, including Paris Hilton, and Lisa Rinna’s daughter, Amelia Gray. After opening his first freestanding boutique in Aspen, Dennis began showing off his unique styles at his Madison Avenue flagship and has continued to expand ever since. “Fashion to me really means an expression of oneself, and I believe also that fashion, besides making you look good, has to make you feel good.”
When it comes to keeping his ready-to-wear looks fresh and modern, Dennis explained that “I think it’s important to surround yourself with young, talented people, to always have an open mind, to be a bit experimental, and to take ideas that are given to you from your team and translate them into great fashion.”
If you’re wondering what inspires his ravishing resort wear looks, it’s his favorite resorts! “My warm weather favorite is the Hotel du Cap in the South of France. Besides being a magical resort, it’s an amazing display of women in beautiful fashion for both day and eveningwear. One of my favorite winter resorts is St Moritz in Switzerland. There as well the women translate winter fashion into fairy tale looks that are both glamorous and warm.”
Basso, whose gowns have been seen on numerous red carpets, attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. A respected voice and supporter of the fashion industry, he is a long-standing member of the prestigious Council of Fashion Designers of America. In 2013, Dennis Basso was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the Fashion Institute of Technology in recognition of his talent, vision, and business acumen.
When he’s not in an exotic part of the world, he’s eating at one of New York’s most beloved dining destinations, including Le Grenouille and the 21 Club, as well as trendy spots such as The Grill, Harry Cipriani, and Mr. Chow.
Watch out for his new Fashion Week Show and collection where you are certainly going to find your new favorite pieces of the season!
