Caswell-Massey, America’s Original Perfumers and Chemists, and The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG), America’s premier urban garden, introduces a new collection of fragrances captured from living florals at the Botanical Garden, along with matching Triple-Milled Soaps and Plant-based Hand Creams.
Established in America in 1752, Caswell-Massey is a treasured American brand with a strong heritage in personal care and fragrance products derived from natural ingredients. The New York Botanical Garden, established in 1891, is world-renowned as a botanical authority and a ‘verdant oasis’ in NYC, whose beauty has served to inspire generations of visitors, including Caswell-Massey’s namesake owners.
The fragrance collection will include three EDT fragrances in Lilac, Honeysuckle and Gardenia, and two new Niche Perfumes based on Roses that have been cultivated in the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden. All the fragrances were developed using ‘living floral’ fragrance capture technology on specimens of each type of flower in the New York Botanical Garden Collection, resulting in beautiful fragrances that match the true scent of fresh, living flowers.
The Lilac, Gardenia and Honeysuckle EDTs are available in full-size 50ml bottles ($75.00) in luxury packaging featuring botanical illustrations from the Rare Book and Folio Collections of NYBG’s LuEsther T. Mertz Library, and in petite 15ml travel-size spray bottles ($25.00).
Beatrix is a beautiful Rose Perfume (50ml, $110.00 MSRP) that opens with notes of Bergamot, a heart of Black Currant & Fig, an earthy base note of Vetiver and a trail of Musk. The fragrance is named for Beatrix Jones Farrand (1872-1959), the most accomplished landscape architect of her time and the only female founder of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Beatrix was the original designer of the Rose Garden at the New York Botanical Garden where this Rose perfume was born. Beatrix will also be available in a petite 15ml Travel Spray for $35.00 MSRP.
ROS (88ml, $125.00 MSRP) is an exotic fragrance for Men and Women developed with the Master Gardeners at the New York Botanical Garden and Senior Perfumer Laurent Le Guernec from a living floral ‘Scepter’d Rose’ that bears three roses on each stem, blooming throughout the summer in the southeast promenade of the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden at the New York Botanical Garden. This is a sophisticated scent with a masculine character, bearing top notes of Citrus and a heart of Dark Spice, Amber & Anise.
The NYBG Floral Fragrance collection also includes a Four-piece Sampler Set ($60.00) that features the Lilac, Honeysuckle, and Gardenia EDT and the Beatrix Perfume, all in 15ml petite travel-size spray bottles in a handsome blue box with a magnetic clasp.
Caswell-Massey’s exquisitely crafted Triple-Milled Luxury Soaps will also feature the three classic floral fragrances: Lilac, Gardenia and Honeysuckle. Single 3.25oz Bars are available for $10.00 each in beautifully decorated cartons. Three-bar sets of the same soaps retail for $24.00, and Plant-Based Hand Creams in these same three scents are also available for $18.00. Beatrix and ROS will be featured in larger, 8oz Triple-Milled Soap Saddle Bars ($25.00).
All products will feature NYBG branded packaging and botanical illustrations from the Rare Book and Folio Collections of NYBG’s LuEsther T. Mertz Library, and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of these products will support NYBG’s work in plant research and conservation, horticulture, and education.
Caswell-Massey President Nick Arauz was tasked with modernizing the much-loved brand while respecting its rich history. Arauz sees these partnerships as a crucial step in this process.
“The creative collaboration between Caswell-Massey, NYBG, and IFF is a natural fit, and we’re honored to work alongside these other iconic American institutions.” Arauz stated. “Since our founding in 1752, we have been driven by a passion for botanical formulations, fragrances, and original remedies created from the natural world. This is a remarkable partnership that enables us to bring the incredible experience of the Garden directly to our customers.”
